H-Dhami’s explosive first album: Sadke Java

Sadke Java

Leading a new generation of young British Bhangra singers is H-Dhami. Being ’s first signing to the new label, Productions, he already benefits from a significant international fan base. H-Dhami’s first album, titled after his single ‘Sadke Java‘, dropped last week. The release was accompanied by a swanky album launch party at the ever popular and highly exclusive Tiffinbites, in St Pauls in Central London.

H-Dhami is no newcomer to the business. He is the son of Bhangra legend Palvinder Dhami, the lead singer of HEERA. Releasing his first album was almost like his destiny waiting to unveil itself as he spent most of his childhood performing on stage alongside his dad. Having soaked up this abundance of creative and musical energy in his family and his immediate circles, he naturally progressed into a career in singing.

The album itself is a reflection of what H-Dhami grew up listening to. He counts his Bhangra influences, other than HEERA, as the likes of Gurdas Maan, Jassi Sidhu and Jazzy B. However, growing up in the UK and being of ethnic origin, he was very much drawn to the R&B and Hip Hop sound. The tracks on the album provide a fusion of all three elements, and a few glimpses of a more traditional Desi Bhangra flavour, which he assures will be paid more attention to once he has established himself in the industry.

All tastes and preferences are catered for with the 13 tracks on Sadke Java. The title track as well as his second single, ‘Mitran Di Jaan‘ are two great club bangers you definitely want to hear when you first play this album. My personal favourite is ‘Har Gabroo‘, which is a mellow and comforting break from the largely up-tempo mood of the album. Another one to listen out for is ‘Tere Naal‘ which features Mumzy, one of my favourite new British artists - who is also signed to Productions.

With two UK Asian Music Award nominations under his belt, H-Dhami has taken the industry by storm in just under a year. He already toured extensively with new material written by and his singles are played up and down the Asian TV and Radio networks. His first music video was also nominated as video of the year by Zee TV.

So what does the future have in store for this young Brit? Well just over 25 events around the globe, including a gig for Shah Rukh Khan. There are also rumours that a major American R&B artist will collaborate with H-Dhami in the near future. With exciting new British Asian artists like H-Dhami, Mumzy and Mona Singh, there really is no telling what musical treats we could be in for in coming years.
