Katrina vs. Aishwarya: Let the battle begin!

One is believed to be the most beautiful woman in the world; the other is a model-turned-actress who has been voted FHM’s Sexiest Woman Alive 2008.
One is the daughter-in-law of the first family in Bollywood; the other is the long-standing girlfriend of one of the biggest stars in Bollywood.
So is Katrina Kaif’s increasing popularity beginning to overshadow the reign of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan?
After winning Miss World in 1994, the Bachchan bahu put India firmly on the world map. Three years later, she made her debut in South Indian cinema, and has since won honours for her performances in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Mohobbatein and Devdas to name a few. Aishwarya is the first Indian actor to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, and is also the first Indian actress to have her own statue at London’s Madame Tussauds. She has become a firm favourite with audiences and has also become one of the most photographed women in the world.
After much speculation following the premiere of Guru in Toronto, Bachchan Junior asked for Aishwarya’s hand in marriage and the two tied the knot in April 2007. Since then, the actress has had just two Bollywood releases, Sarkar Raj and Jodhaa Akbar. The former architecture student has also just completed filming for the Hollywood sequel to Pink Panther, with a release set for 2009.
While the former Miss World has been somewhat lying low in the Bollywood arena, there have been other actresses who have jumped onto the popularity bandwagon in her absence. The most talked-about actress of the moment, mainly owing to her successful on-screen pairing with Akshay Kumar, is Katrina Kaif. She was initially known as Salman Khan’s girlfriend before her first release, Boom, but was first noticed on her own accord in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. Since then, Katrina has given audiences four consecutive hit films in 2007 alone, two of which were with Akshay.
She was loved in her role in Race, where she was paired opposite Saif Ali Khan, and Singh is Kinng gave Katrina her fourth successful movie with Akshay.
Katrina has also become very popular in Indian advertising. Earlier in the year she topped Aishwarya by superseding her in Internet search keyword popularity. As if that wasn’t enough, a few weeks prior to the release of Singh is Kinng, Aishwarya was replaced by Katrina as Brand Ambassador of Nakshatra, a world-renowned brand for diamond jewellery.
Katrina’s USP on screen is that she portrays a contemporary image of India, a blend which gives her the perfect NRI look. Aishwarya, on the other hand, has always represented herself as a conventional and well-rooted Indian woman.
Even on the international stage, Ash has never fallen back in promoting her Indian heritage. In 2003, as a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, Ash adorned the red carpet in a sari. Her statue at London’s Madame Tussaud’s also has her posing in an Indian dress as per her character in Gurinder Chadha’s Bride and Prejudice. Could this be the difference Kat can bring to Nakshatra diamonds? Could Kat’s modernity overshadow Ash’s traditional persona?
With Ash being the ex-girlfriend of Katrina’s current beau, Salman Khan, it’s no wonder there might be a little rivalry between the two beauties. Although her relationship with Salman can appear to be the most significant catalyst in Katrina’s career, nobody can deny that her last four films have been blockbusters.
Perhaps Ash will have to rely on her Hollywood roles to keep her standing within the hearts of the international audiences, while giving way to Katrina, who is a younger and fresher depiction of Indian beauty, in Bollywood. That said however, rumour has it that Hollywood has recently been knocking on Katrina’s door too. Although the exact details haven’t yet been revealed, if true, there’s no stopping Katrina overtaking Ash internationally too.
Meanwhile, as well as Hello! , which is in cinemas now, fans will be able to see Katrina and Salman, at what is tipped to be their romantic best, in Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraaj which is set to release in late October 2008.

Katrina cannot act, dance, speak Hindi or even speak English well. She is successful because of her boyfriend and working with Akshay Kumar. She is the biggest joke in Bollywood. Let’s see how far her pretty looks take her when her movies start flopping.
Either she is lazy or learning impaired since she has been in BW over 5 years and yet has not improved. She is an insult to the other up and coming actresses who struggle to get a foothold.

i totally disagree with that ,ok katrina gave four hits but can anyone tell me what katrina was doing in those films , the films are either carried of by the leas male star or other people in the film . in race she was expressionless . her role in partner was not given importance instead i saw alot of govinda,lara and salman on screen .on the other hand aishwarya is a very good actor as well as a very good dancer .she is the pure definition of beauty .

Katrina is sexier than Ash at this moment in time. For comparison, watch Race and Dhoom 2. Katrina suited the role in race but Ash looked out of place in Dhoom 2 (partly let down by horrible dialogues). Bollywood is increasingly preoccupied with style over substance, six-pack over script, size-zero over story. This coupled with a daft audience has led to the success of crap films like Om Shanti Om, Dhoom 2, Hey baby and Singh is King.
Since when has acting skills been important for success in Bollywood? Look at Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone - all are plastic and yet are considered ’stars’. Kareena Kapoor is generally considered as the number 1 actress - despite the fact that both Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra have each delivered more hits than Kareena and in a shorter period of time.
So what if Katrina cannot speak fluent Hindi? She just has to recite dialogueslike everybody else. This didn’t stop Sridevi, so why raise this issue against Katrina?

Ash got an award for Mohabbatein?????? Why? If i re-call she was hardy in the film.. and i could have done a better job floating around the scenes…lol
Anyhow, i dont like Ash, she’s too stuck up.. never thought she was a good actor, nor a good dancer.. she just looks good.
Kat is not a brilliant actor but i like her.. she’s different,she looks good. Her personality seems one of a gentle nature, unlike Ash.

I think Ashwariya Rai was stunning when she came on the scene- the grey doe eyes, thin nose, statuesque. Katrina isn’t as stunning as Ash (although she does share some qualities) But she is looking better than her these days. To be honest I think she’s just got lucky!!!
They are both attractive in their own ways, but Ash was better than her in her hey day!

How comes there are more females obsessed with this issue that male folks? I thought it was meant to be the other way round…
Anyway, from my point of view both Ash and Katrina are gorgeous, regardless their age. Both score 10/10 in terms of looks from my perspective.
Now if the question was “who do you think is a better actress”, then that would be quite tricky. Ash has done more movies that Katrina, and her roles have varied. I can’t really say Ash is a brilliant actress in all her roles, but some movies she has done full justice to - like Devdas, Jodha Akbar, Dhoom 2, Sarkar Raj etc, whereas she was just OK in the other films.
On the other hand, Katrina may have many successful films to her credit…but can she be credited for the success of those films? She has minor roles in films, and some of which there is no need for her to star in. But the films become hits due to star power like Akshay Kumar, and this leads to Katrina wearing the success crown. Simply a fluke!
Katrina hasn’t been given a fully fledged role where she can display her talents and histrionics so she cannot be compared to Ash right now. If she did a Devdas or a Umrao Jaan, only then we can say who is better. Come on…even her voice is dubbed in most of her films!

katrina rox she has more hits in one year (6 in total) than ash has in her entire career. enough said! when ash started out she was just used as a glamour too and people still consider her a plastic doll but when she hit 30 she did off beat films like raincoat and choker bali but that is because none of the big stars like SRK Aamir wanted to work with her and she had to go do regional movies or her unsuccessful ventures in hollywood to stay in business. katrina is just 24 by the time she reaches 30 she will be like Ash or even beyond. plus she is gorgeous just compare the two of them in the above photo ash looks haggard even in the bikini top blouse.

Just watch film…GURU…….Aish has simple clothes and the minimal makeup …she is looking VERY average…..98% of her films …she is extra full of makeup ,very very bright and expensive clothes and extra heavy jewlery and than we all say….phewwwwl she looks stunning…….damn ..just take off the make and the jewlery and she is an average looking woman !!!
As for stand out….again Aish and also Katrina both even Kareena would stand out definetly with all that makeup .expensive clothes and jewlery !!!!

Hmmmm… lets compare!
1. In terms of natural beauty (non-makeup): Katrina retains her looks whether on screen or off, whilst Ash has dry pasty skin.
2. In terms of acting skills: Ash is a much more accomplished actress, however, Katrina hasn’t been in the industry long.
3. In terms of accomplishments: Ash has gone from strength to strength, from Bollywood to Hollywood, and a recent member of the Bachan family. Whilst Katrina, again new, is taking Bollywood by storm, and has even had her face in FHM etc.
Personally, they’re both good at acting but i’m not shallow so don’t look at them in terms of beauty, physique, or accomplishments. There’s no eastern culture left in Bollywood, it’s all an expensive imitation of Hollywood. I wouldn’t be supprised if they put up B O L L Y W O O D in a nearby mountain range.. lol!

well i don’t see much of a comparison, in all honesty they both resemble each other too much to differentiate, now if you put aish with lara dutta we may have a debate here, but katrina’s complexion and aish’s are far too similar they both have that same seductive innocence look about them and both fall into the category of that bog standard same old bollywood look I want to see an actress with a mowhawk, a tattoo or atleast a piercing somewhere extroardinary, give us a little food for thought showing off the body is just an expression of how lovely both their bodies are, but are they willing to do anything extreme. Would make them feel like a fish out of water, if a comparison is to be made it should be with two opposites not similar looking stunning girls.

Aishwarya rai all the way u cannot compare the 2, the reason katrina is getting so much attention because of her fair white complexion and from england etc. iam sorry she cant even act theres no comparrison with aishwarya, at least aish gave many hits and she is what u call a true asian beauty shes not fake she still looks young and she is the only bollywood female recognised worldwide not just around asian but all around. u all need to get yr facts right before judeging people. good luck to katrina iam sure she is a lovely girl but she cant act all her films been comedy with akshay give her a serious drama based film and lets see. end off

For example, Priyanka Chopra! Former Miss India and Miss World of 2000 (NOTE: Lara Dutta and Dia Mirza won Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific the very same year).
Anyway, Priyanka has only been acting since 2002, starring in Bollywoods ‘The Hero’ in 2003, which was the biggest grossing film that year. She has won awards for both heroin and villain roles (i.e. Aitraaz). And she is naturally beautiful too, but I don’t keep pin-ups!

katrina kaif and aishwary rai both rised to stardom and fame jst becoz of sallu. aish had her time of being one of the hotest actress although i dnt she was hot in that way i think she is breauty but not hot in sexy there is difference, i say priyanka is more sexy. anywhom aish’s days are over as there is new grl on the block and her name is katrina kaif, and with few years if she does make the same mistake as aish (which so far she is aware of it) thn she would be placed by sallu’s new grlfirend (Nomiro 5th grl). ths is katrina’s century man…aish who!

Can i just rewind back to the time when Ash first came to our screens, with films such as ‘Aur pyar Ho Gaya’… she couldnt act… Katrina is still learning…. its a bit unfair comparing the both, you need to work your way up and it takes time & Katrina’s doing a good job of it, mind you she’s doing better then what Ash did when she started.

And before anyone goes on about the “acting” awards that Aishwrya has won, it has to be said that Bollywood awards are a joke. There are many other actors out there better than SRK and somehow he manages to “win” some sort of award just to remind people he exists. Loser.

There seems to be a lot of young people commenting on this article. Let me give you some history. Aishwarya’s first movie was with Mani Ratham - Iruvar. That movie is now considered a Tamil classic. A year later Aishwarya was nominated for Best Actress at all the awards for both Taal and HDDCS and won all for HDDCS. She has been nominated and won awards for many movies over the years - Devdas, Mohabattein, Chokher Bali, Raincoat, Guru and now Jodhaa Akbar. In the first five years in the industry she was winning awards and still is winning awards and many of her movies are still remembered. Plus she is still in demand by the best directors - Mani Ratham, Gowariker, SLB, Bharadwaj, etc.
Let’s look at Katrina, she has been in the industry for over 5 years and is still considered the worst actress and can’t speak Hindi or dance. Katrina has made no effort to improve and has been lucky to get forgettable hit movies with top stars like Akshay Kumar.
As to looks, there is no comparison. Aishwarya wins hands now. She has appeared in movies (Chokher Bali, Raincoat, Provoked, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar and even Karja Re) or attending temple with little or no makeup and still looks beautiful. Katrina is plain without make-up - she has skinny lips, a long horsey face and small eyes. As someone mentioned, Mickey Contractor the most famous makeup man in the industry has said that Aishwarya is a ‘natural’ beauty and the most beautiful and he has worked with them all. Case closed.
Stop with the meaningless comparisons.

Ok, am I the only one who thinks Aish has a crooked nose? I agree she is pretty otherwise but shouldn’t ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’ at least have a pretty nose? I have seen so many pictures of her where her nose look pointy and hooked! Sorry, but in terms of features Kat is just perfect. I’m just not so obsessed with Ash’s blue eyes and white skin like most of India (sadly) is.

i think ash was way more beautiful in her youth…unfortunately time and emotional problems have caught up with her looks . she’s still my favourite and absolutely stunning , but Kat being younger is prettier at present. Ultimately if you look at ah at 24 and kat at 24 you can conclude that a 100 kats can come and go, but there can nevr be another ash. she was truly perfect!!! In fact her statue at madame tussauds was the toughest to make so far as even the maker felt only God could create such perfection…!

Katrina cannot act, dance, speak Hindi or even speak English well. She is successful because of her boyfriend and working with Akshay Kumar. She is the biggest joke in Bollywood. Let’s see how far her pretty looks take her when her movies start flopping.
Either she is lazy or learning impaired since she has been in BW over 5 years and yet has not improved. She is an insult to the other up and coming actresses who struggle to get a foothold.

Neither has any taste in men though. I would be overjoyed to look like either of them (preferably Aish though) but not even I would look twice at Salman Khan. I mean- did he drug you, blind you, what??!!!

Oh man, what a heated discussion we got here.
First and foremost, let put things straight. We can’t have a SOLID conclusion who is the pretiest. The beautiful terms is different on the eyes of the beholder. My mom said Aish was very pretty. For me she is pretty but not my preference of beauty. I love Manisha Koirala sort of beauty and believe me there ARE a lot of Indian actresses that FAR more prettier than those two BUT these two stand out because of their own significance charm.
On the other hand, Kat is gorgeous too of course, except actually she has the common prettiness of Pakistani’s girl. I have seen lots Pakistanis who were extremely gorgeous. It just on their blood.Katrina happen to be on of them and to add the bonus, she is an artist. She has the charm and know how to dress that stand her out from others. Both Aish and Kat beautiful with or without makeup based on personal. Ok enough of who are the prettier. You can choose and pick your favorite based on whatever criteria you have in mind. Yet somehow, even though I admit kat is stunning but sometimes her long face and big nose bothered me, but she know how to present herself which is always delight to the eyes.
Acting wise and based on first five years of their experience I have to choose Aish. The fact is just as LEE has mentioned above. Aish has won several award in first five years of her acting. I remembered her acting that time, not that good but not that. She know how to act. On the other side I love to watch Kat but somehow her acting is sucks, and believe me I have seen worst actresses before but not as bad as her. I tried really hard to like her acting but duh, I just can’t mesmerized in her acting. Her expression is none, her eyes didn’t intense enough. I don’t know, its like she didn’t tried hard to learn the skills or to improve herself. I kind disappointed with her since I like her at the beginning before I saw her acting.

It sad to be admit but yah I have to agree with Lee, Katrina’s no improvement in acting is kind of insult to other actresses who work hard to be there like Vidya for example. She is truly talented. Made me remembered of Juhi Chawla and Manisha Koirola. My two personal favorite. Both in beauty, charm and acting wise. But well, people nowadays love commercial films that presented stunning actors and actresses without so much talent, then they got what they want.

so far this year 2009, all of katrina movies were box office hits… she is naturally beautiful and is the best thing in bollywood today, she will be #1 this year, she is the best actress i just love her…
ashiwariya is too fake, she did lip, and skin surgery. she cannot act, she was lucky that she got cast in two of bansali’s’ movie… but again she is nothing much. she cannot act… she even changed the color of her eyes…
