Jade’s run in with Big Boss

Posted on 19 August 2008 by Fatema Yasmine

Jade Goody

Big Boss is the Indian version of Big Brother, it is now in its second series with the opening night taking in a record number of viewers (over four million). As one would suspect, every candidate in the Indian house seemed to have aspirations in Bollywood in one form or another - and then to everyone’s shock, Jade Goody entered the house.

Now we all understand that Jade is on a mission to save her ‘celebrity career’, and force everyone to see that she is not a racist. Most of us do understand that she really isn’t a BNP skinhead, nor is she a covert member of the KKK . The racist attitude she bears is the silent, inbuilt and innate misunderstanding of the issue which she appears to discreetly accept. But was entering the Indian Big Brother House to counter this image really a good idea? Has she not had enough of reality TV shows? We as the British public have certainly had enough of her. Her voice is somewhat similar to that of a drowning cat through a megaphone, and she isn’t the most pleasing of people to the eyes. Well done to her for getting this far (rags to riches story), but just give it a break Jade. You have had your fifteen minutes.

Lo and behold on the second night of Big Boss she gets a phone call from London saying she has cervical cancer, so she has to leave with the sympathy of the world with her. How convenient. Jade underwent a few hospital tests before flying to India - and this is her third Cancer scare. You think considering, she would somewhat be prepared for the emotional onslaught that follows. However her excess blubbering and dramatic wailing on the show on receiving the news was a tad over the top. Crying is not going to make the world forget Jade’s behaviour, perhaps some dignity and silence is needed here. Cancer is a horrible illness that no one deserves, and I hope Jade recovers, but did Jade plan this ‘announcement’ on international TV?

Was the intention of making amends the reason she entered Big Boss or was it the £100,000 she was rumoured to be paid? I am sure she would have given the money to charity just as she did after the “Shilpa Poppadom” fiasco. But by forgiving her and letting her roam around in the public stage again, are we somehow encouraging this type of ignorant racism? What has happened to Daniella Lloyd (Jade’s partner in crime)? She seems to have not suffered any notable consequence to her actions. Have we forgiven her because her breasts are not as droopy and her voice not as shrill?

My advice Jade, try to be a proper English Rose like our Shilpa and respect yourself so that we may be able to respect you.

This is unfair. Yes Jade Goody is ignorantly racist, but isn’t intentional racism far worse?

Who are we to judge? Jade was poorly educated and so she knows no better. The educated writer of this article should know better than to judge people.

As for her cancer diagnosis to be “convenient”. She has Cervical Cancer. I wouldn’t wish that on my very worst enemy. Have a heart.

jade should have a heart and leave us all alone. how much is she going to make from selling her story ? all the papers are going to jump on this and she isnt ever going to go away. photo’s in all the mags from the hospital no doubt.

i do feel bad for her having cancer thou.

  3. Saima Says: Rate Comment? (0)

she was funny talking hindi with her accent. she would have gone crazy after a few days, not being able to talk to anyone because no one is permissioned to speak english in the house.

    hope she gets well soon.

I like the brutal honesty of your opinions on this article and i do think Jade Goody is a twat but the reality of her silly ventures i believe is from the people around her, let me put it to you this way - dangling a red flag infront of a bull, its that easy for someone to do things for the money, it is the second oldest profession or so ive heard.

alias; stop following her life and leave her alone.

This is rather harsh and hateful isn’t it?

Yeah so she’s ignorant, badly educated and whatnot but nobody deserves to be “conveniently” diagnosed with cancer. Different people may react differently to bad news, what you may see as “excess blubbering and dramatic wailing” is her own way of dealing with it (or not dealing with it, whichever way you want to look at it).

So Jade irritates a lot of people but to say the public have had enough? Clearly not if she’s still managing to sell magazines and papers. This article clearly shows that she is newsworthy! If you hate her so much, why write about her?

As someone mentioned above, her racism isn’t intentional and stems from ignorance; therefore educating her is the key. Maybe going to India and going on their version on Big Brother was the way to go about it…However saying that, I do believe she is merely a pawn for her publicists and she’s not intelligent enough to realise this.

I’m not saying she deserves our sympathy but surely she does not deserve our hate- there are far more hateful people in the world that have done far more awful things. If anything, I pity her.

And finally (yeah I know I’ve gone on a bit) here we are talking about Jade’s ignorant racism, but surely we should look towards are own communities which has far more ingrained racism and racist attitidues than Jade ever did.

my previous comment was deleted by the moderators. Did I DO wrong by saying Fatema was a hypocrite for complaining about being harassed then a day later mocking a cancer sufferer? If so, I apologise. This is not personal. I have a right to express my view. You played dirty when you deleted my 1st comment. Thats a concern.

  10. roulette Says: Rate Comment? (0)

Alias- I read your comment prior to it being deleted and I have to say, I agree with you there mate; that is a concern. Your comment was hardly offensive. It seems like the writer of the article can dish the critism but can’t take the critism. Moderators, please explain why you have deleted Alias’s comment?

  11. alias support Says: Rate Comment? (0)

I totaly agree with Alias’s current and deleted comments, He did no wrong, he had every right to highlight Fatemas misgivings (as she clearly has with others) some people just need to wake up and smell the coffee and realise that the world does not revolve around them! Its a case of Double Standards, same rule applies to all!!

And all youve done here is just incite hatred towards the woman!! let by gones be by gones why continually dig up the past!!!!!?? It just goes to show that your no better!!

Publicity and seeking fame through media is very naff. Im most sad that the Indian folks allowed something as disgusting and degraded as big brother onto their blessed soil.

but fatty, she’s human too. and Shilpa, you think she respects herself as much as she should?

Can’t wait for Bollywood to be over, and something more dignified to superscede it. My indian rolewoman model is arundhati roy…

so you guys all support the racist cow?god help you. good article, thank you for not sitting on the fence.

  14. alias_fake Says: Rate Comment? (0)

‘alias’ and ‘alias support’ appear to be the same person. so your the one sending Fatema all the hate mail and personal threats. you need help you sicko.

  15. alias Says: Rate Comment? (0)

no we dont support it. Her actions affected ME and all you here more than a bollywood superstar, whos career has rocketed since. The normal people experience racism more frequently. All im saying is its not fair to kick Jade now. Career saving move or not, shes trying. If everyone was on the fence with Fatema and Shuhel id stick to my guns. My conscience would kill me. Im a she by the way.

  16. roulette Says: Rate Comment? (0)

Click, if you read the above comments carefully then you’ll realise that nobody is supporting the “racist cow” (as you have so put it) but rather they are not willing to condone the writer’s apparent hatred and bitchiness towards her.

Have you ever heard the saying: “Judge not lest ye be judged”? (i.e. do not judge or you too will be judged”)

  17. alias_fake Says: Rate Comment? (0)

alias: you are a she, that explains it all.lolz, girls hating on girls.lolz Jade’s career will be saved and we are all expected to forgive her. Maybe she will go out with a coloured person next, perfect ending to Jade.

alias fake. You are pathetic. Its not me. Why dont you report me for harassing fatema? Well clear that up very quickly. Its sad that ID has such a poor class of readership. Im again saying i expressed my opinion. I dont hate Fatema. Im really glad though that i used an alias. Can someone sane please say ive done wrong and il stop, even apologise to the writer for my comments. What do you think Fatema. Tell me im wrong and il apologise and stop?

  19. neems Says: Rate Comment? (0)

I liked the honest nature of this article. It’s what most of us are thinking and Fatema is merely stating her opinion and should be allowed her freedom of speech.

  20. roulette Says: Rate Comment? (2)

Err…hold on if Fatema is merely stating her opinion and should be allowed her freedom of speech then it’s a given that we should be allowed to have our opinion and freedom of speech; therefore I am slightly baffled as to why Alias’s first comment was deleted by the moderator! And the moderators still haven’t given their reason for deleting it!

Alias, I agree with you about ID’s poor class of readership; I’m beginning to think that the readers of ID are a clique of the writer(s)’s friends who don’t seem to like any form of criticism directed towards their friend’s articles and launch an attack on those who do!

Surely the point of the reply box was not there to agree with everything the writer has written or praise the article but to invite some form of debate & criticism…good and bad.

  21. alias_fake Says: Rate Comment? (0)

    lolz

“Alias, I agree with you about ID’s poor class of readership”

yea I agree you (roulette) and alias are be a poor class of readership, the rest of us are pretty great.

Having seen all Big Brother videos about Jade, I understand she had been bullying and had some attitude against asians (maybe). she had been a bit bitchy and she admits it.
But like Shilpa, you may be a better soul to forgive her.
She admits her mistake, showed remorse, faced the unpleasant situations and has learnt from it, what else would you want from her?
She is a bit foul mouthed and many people are. She had been brought up that way and lived in the same environment. It does not mean she is a bad soul.
Cancer is something you wont want your enemy to get and deeply regret these harsh words coming out from any woman.(I guess my post will be deleted for this comment).
It takes courage to admit your mistake, apologise and take initiatives to make up for it.
I know we all have come out strong and opposed it every way we could but everybody makes misktakes and deserves a chance.
You can win hatred by loved, forgiveness and kindness and Shilpa has proved it live!
Don’t be astonished but these words are coming from a true Indian who’s self-respect and respect for the country is as much as anyone else could have. And to those who havent seen India, with a most diversity of religions and castes, there is more rascism than this.

    @ Fatema..
I ain’t a Jade fan…in fact I used to hate her when the row was on, mainly due to ignorance of other facts. Infact, I am a Shilpa Shetty fan…after the Big Brother. She has not only won the contest but won people, repect and dignity. She stood for it and got it…the approach was different…kind..forgiving and loving.
Please read the holy texts on sin, guilt, forgiveness and remorse….they will enlighten you further….if you ever wish to.

  33. alias Says: Rate Comment? (0)

thats it. i cant do this, sorry peeps

  34. roulette Says: Rate Comment? (0)

LBBW- yeah some of the comments from the floor have been venomous however I don’t think the article is much better - talk about kicking a girl when she’s down.

PS. Amrish has made very good and valid points…think we all need to take a leaf out of his book.

  35. LBBW Says: Rate Comment? (0)

Hi Roulette: I don’t care to know about the other issues. Let me categorically inform you all that I personally am concerned at the comments from the floor, nothing or nobody else. The laissez faire attitude towards cancer is what I’m worried about.

The Author reserves the right to opine as long as it’s legal. This is the beauty of freedom of speech. You all reserve the right to respond - however a little tact and understanding would go a long way towards strengthening ones argument.

Deadlines approaching and I’m spending too much time on here…

  36. roulette Says: Rate Comment? (1)

Hi LBBW - absolutely. Point taken. You will realise from reading the above comments that although there are some venomous comments- equally there are some tactful and/or understanding comments.

I personally have had someone close to me die of bowel cancer- it’s a horrible disease that slowly eats away at you and leaves you in agonising pain- not very nice to witness; so although you’re only concerned with the comments from the floor, it is the comment of “convenient” cancer from the writer of the article that worries me. I’m sure hearing the news that she was diagnosed with cancer was not a “convenience” for Jade. It must be scary and let’s not forget that this is a woman with children

YEs, the auther does have the right to opine and yes Jade is an annoying/ignorant/racist character but seriously, was there a need to be so heartless and as you put it “laissez-faire” about the cancer?

  37. Nilima Says: Rate Comment? (2)

Dear Ms Author fatema Yasmine, please stop manipulating the scene. there is no personal attack here. there is no danger. you do not have to hide. you are deluded though and acting like a grief stricken salman rushdie. there are conflicting opinions here thats all. there are no threats or violence or shouting or throwing things. if you cant take that you should stop writing now. you should stop acting like mother theresa and face up to it. people want answers and you should give them answers. as said some of us are not your friends. you seem to have a v cosy life surrounded by people who say yes all te time. you also have little to give except a beatiful face. this can help for a while but no depth means you get found out for being shallow. advice is if you dont change your attitude you will find it difficult in life. I lost someone from cancer. you can never understand pain because of your preveliged life. i gather that you report people who disagree with you to the police and have a friend who is an senior officer and i am scared writing this but feel i have to. if i get into trouble so be it. also dont delete comments

  38. tehri_ma Says: Rate Comment? (0)

haai haai! read the article, she does not say cancer is a good thing, she just says Jade is using it to get what she wants. if jade focused only on her cancer and not getting back into celebrity life, she will not go to press and tell all in stories.
also i tihnk Nilima is crazy, and should stop worshiping/stalking fatema.

  39. teri baap Says: Rate Comment? (0)

theres no need to defend fatema. She wrote what she wrote. Were debating her points not her. She doesnt need defending and you do a lousy job anyway. You guys need to wake up.

  40. roulette Says: Rate Comment? (1)

Since yesterday I have noticed quite a few comments have been deleted- why is this? So it’s alright for the author to have her freedom of speech but not for the commmentators reading her article? That’s a shame and I feel it will prevent me from reading (and recommending anyone to read) ID in the future.

Fatema’s friends should realise that nobody is attacking her but merely debating/criticising what was written in her article and therefore this is nothing personal.

    Over and out.

  41. Shuhel Says: Rate Comment? (1)

Okay, can we conclude this, as it’s going around in circles. Certain comments were deleted as they were baseless accusations, unconstructive and were highly inappropriate.

The article is alluding to the cancer scare as a publicity stunt on behalf of Jade. Is it plausible? Indeed it is. When someone goes through toil and turmoil, even their harshest critics resolve to airing sympathy and siding with them. Under the circumstances (a number of previous similar scares, her being public enemy number 1 etc.) I would say that there is a higher level of probability of such a views bearing fruit than it would in any other situation.

Re: Cancer in general. No where in the article is there any implicit of explicit reference to cancer being anything less than a horrendous disease - many thousands around the world are killed from it every year, and it is still accepted as a “death sentence” to those that contract it. I’m sure some of us have direct experience of this fact from within our immediate, or extended family.

Can we keep any proceeding comments on the content of the article, rather than throw further remarks beyond the content.

  42. Shuhel Says: Rate Comment? (1)

Furthermore, it seems that accusations that this is a publicity stunt isn’t a view held exclusively by Fatema:

The UK has exported some rubbish in the past but this has got to be a new low point. Jade Goody may be an accurate reflection of a large section of British society but that’s hardly something we want the rest of the world to know about. She should be stripped of her passport and pushed out into the Atlantic.
