A Live Session with Karen David
Posted on 05 June 2008 by Shuhel Miah

Last week Karen Shenaz David - more widely known as “Karen David” - held her last show in the UK, before moving off to the States and Canada to play a few more gigs and start promo for her upcoming movie, “The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian“.
For those new to Karen David, the multi-talented, multi-faceted 26-year-old was born in Shillong, India and raised in Ontario, Canada. She attended Toronto’s Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, and at 17 she won a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and proceeded to London to study at The Guildford School of Acting in 1997. She has since starred in a number of films and stage plays, including “Flight of Fury” alongside Steven Seagal and “Provoked” with Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai.
The evening was held at the swish Soho Revue Bar in London. The promotional material promised intimacy, and the audience got intimacy; the stage level with the floor, and the packed room no bigger than a small hall, her guests were treated to something far away from the world of mass commercialisation… with people even having a chance to exchange a few words with Karen after the show.
Live musicians at hand, Karen David filled every inch of the room with her rich vocal talents. The songs performed were primarily off her Live Sessions EP and ranged from the sultry Magic Carpet Ride, with its mesmerising vocals and tabla composition to the more up-tempo Pink Glasses. Furthermore, the personal commentary in-between the songs reflected on her humble persona and added to the intimacy of the event.
Although a relatively short set, it was fully enjoyable, leaving many, including myself, looking forward to hearing more from this gorgeous singer.
The Live Sessions EP by Karen David is out now through Foshfin Records.
Exclusive pictures from the night are available to view in the InsideDesi Gallery.
